Some friends just know how to speak to a camera. Others leave impressions that keep you motivated. When you’ve got that friend who speaks to the camera and leave you motivated, you gotta write some poetry.
These are a few words that come to mind when I think of the positive mindset this friend brings. Her love of life. Her fresh humor. Her deep love of living. Her passion for being. You just can’t help but be inspired to think positive and act positively.
One day, I’ll share more about how this friendship helped me level up my marriage and discover poetry. Yeah. It’s a very interesting mix.
For the record, all that positivity wouldn’t have availed much if I had not met my lady love… the woman who really inspire and push me forward. But her poetry… is just shared with her only. For now, let’s dive into the words inspired by a sun kissed photo session.

Shine Strong
Forged in the fire of urban life
Beaten but never broken
Resilient beyond measure
Many site her beauty for their shine
A queen who seen it all
Kept rising through it all
Some tried to add blemish
Yet, she played with it and flourished
She wears her pain with a smile
The cost of living in a male slanted life
She may appear to be alone
But she can well do it all alone
Some have aligned with her
Risen alongside with her
Even encouraged her to press forward
A gentleman or two have encouraged onward
Her identity not defined by opinions of society
This woman is diamond strong
Sparkling elegance with effervescence
Full of noble piety
Let the light catch her right
And you’ll see all of her might
Smooth and sensual as in delight
Her beauty a testimony of what’s out of sight
Don’t hate
Some may vex and fail to see straight
She’s un-bothered by those who wish her ill fate
She’s not one to fall for foolish bait
The sun rises over the good as well as the wicked
There is no rest for the wicked
Her peace is a shareable ticket
You’ve just got to ask, she’ll share, you can take it
You’ll never know the miles she’s walked
All you see is her polished heels
You’ll never see her sweat, as she stands tall
Her curves inspiring writers to rest their eyes on her hills
You may see her sitting pretty
But her agility always at the ready
Light on her taps, nothing petty
Her charm is quite familiar already
A noble heart can appreciate
The work she’s done to elevate herself
The efforts to elevate her tribe by herself
Not wanting to wait for any himself
The power and strength is there, all independent
She owns her space and left the past of dependence
Willing to submit is her code of interdependence
Only with the right honorable gentleman who, too, is independent
He may encourage her to shine brighter
Because her glory is no shade on his
He’ll encourage her higher
For together, they can build and aim for better
He knows quite well
She is doing very well
He’s only adding, not subtracting
Knowing she easily dismissed what’s distracting
The cream rises to the top
She may shake you, and stir you
Without being lost or blended into your mess
It’s only with kindness she whips the mess out of you
Remember, it’s in her feminine code
Her genetic essence
To be strong
And to shine bright
To be a woman
Is the very definition of strong
To be a woman
Is the very definition of honor
Those who contemplate
Those who appreciate
Will be moved to shine strong
It’s really not complicated
Let’s work together
To elevate one another
Lifting the queens to another level
Let no man tempt to tear asunder
Her wellness
Is societies well being
Her shine is our strong
Elevate her, so she can shine strong

Playfully Strengthened
Have you ever looked at woman playing absentmindedly?
See the real beauty that just shines brightly?
Some find it whimsical
Some temporal flight of nonsensical
But look closer
Beyond the societal layers
Strength is playing
Comfortably displaying
It takes confidence
To show signs of vulnerabilities
A shoe dangle
Symbolic relaxation
Security in her settings
Playfully watching the world slip by
Unstressed
Watching other’s distress
She playfully rests
Confident in her own strength
But, pull back the veil another notch
Peak into the dark beneath the tarp
You’ll find a woman who enjoys being herself
Not restricted by the casings of myths
Not limited to being a caricature
Of outdated barefoot kitchen architecture
No. This woman gains strength
In the very places others find weakness
She plays to her strengths
She plays through her weaknesses
All you see is flow of grace
Playfully strengthened from within
Often balancing impossible task
As she often does with impossible poses
Smiling, living, thriving
Even when others jealously envy the complexion
Children learn through play
Adults, who cease to play
Often withering away
Filled with pain from lack of say
Not this woman… who is here to stay
She freely builds her say
Only to share it with whom she deems worthy
Not everyone who asks deserves a worthy reply
Join her in her fun
You never know, you might have some fun
Friendships built through play
Grow in strength day by day
Even when life requires seriousness
There is often healing, afterwards, in playfulness
Should you catch her slipping
Offer a secure hand
She’ll thank you with a smile
And catch you when you’re slipping
Kick her when she’s down
Be indebted to her graces when she rebounds
Think wisely
Don’t cross her stupidly
Come along and play
You’ll just might want to stay
After all, through play, we’re all strengthened
Which is the whole point of the story
This woman is playfully strengthened
Because her strength knows how to play
Next time you see a lady playing absentmindedly
Either join in, or leave her be
It’s her moment of peace
Where she gains her strength to be magical once again
No Shadows… just complex beauty complexions
Some have tried to cast doubt and shadows
Thinking that if they hold her back in deep sorrow
They gain an edge on tomorrow
Little do they know
The very definition of womanhood
Is the ability to rise while creating life
Don’t hold her back
You’re only holding yourself back
For, unjustly restrained, she’ll stop having your back
When she plays hard to get
And smile from a ways back
It’s a signal you should learn to get
Give her your heart
Let her pour life and reignite your shine
Her specialty is clearing out shadows
She’ll play with the light of day
Leading or letting one believe
It’s all the dance of a shadow warrior
Fine peace and prosperity
Under the shade of her beauty
Learn a trade or trait of prosperity
Woman give life
That life more abundantly
From all her self sacrifices
It’s a process far too complex
One that drive many a men crazy
It’s just part of her multiplicative process
Her tenderness
Yours to caress
Hers to share with enduring finesse
The fullness of her lips
Touching you with honey drip
Speaking life to your soul
If only you look past the shadows
She’s waiting patiently
Peacefully
Knowing you’re her king
One willing to be her equal
Understanding she’s the source of your strength
It’s complex
It’s the real situation
There are no imitations
A woman’s gift of life
Is the treasure of life
The stories shared throughout life
She shows herself as she pleases
What side you’ll see
It’s sometime just a tease
But trust when you see
Beyond the flirtatious play
There is passion beating, just wait and see
Women hold complexity
The multiples of integrity
Elevating with passion and electricity
What lies beneath is powerful as it is real
No shadows… just real complex beauty complexions

Aimed only at those deserving of love eternal
That’s the simplicity of her complexity
A woman operates on love
